Antebellum 4

Height: 7”

Circumference: 15.5”

The Antebellum series pays homage to a specific experience of black people in America. Again pulling inspiration from nature, the artist strives to relate the environment to his own personal history. The natural motifs imply the balance between economic power in the Antebellum south and the pain of black experience. Without the striking agrarian images, he explores African Americans’ complex relationship with the landscape in an attempt to understand his present connection to nature.
